Praseodymium is used in a variety of alloys. The high-strength alloy it forms with magnesium is used in aircraft engines: Rapidly Solidified Magnesium Base Alloy Sheet (1992). Praseodymium is also used in alloys for permanent magnets: Permanent Magnet Materials (1979).

Praseodymium compounds are used as yellow pigments:

Doping praseodymium in fluoride glass allows it to be used as a single-mode fibre optical amplifier: Infrared Transmitting Optical Fibre Materials (1995).

Praseodymium oxide in combination with ceria has been used as an oxidation catalyst: Catalyst (1998).
